Boat license plates according to regulations - how to do it right
In Germany, all small vessels on inland waterways must have a clearly legible license plate. The legal basis is provided by Section 2 of the Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV) and recommendations from the water and shipping authorities.
The minimum requirements for boat license plates are
- Letters/numbers at least 10 cm high
- Clear, sans serif font (e.g. DIN 1451)
- Color contrast to the boat wall (dark lettering on a light background or vice versa)
- Attached to both sides of the bow or stern, depending on the type of boat
Our boat license plate stickers are manufactured exactly according to these specifications. They are made of weather and UV-resistant film and can withstand salty water and intense sunlight. Ideal for sailing boats, motorboats, inflatable boats or fishing boats.
Optionally, we also offer additional protective laminates for even longer durability or individual dimensions if the standard height of 10 cm needs to be exceeded - e.g. for commercial shipping or international approvals.
* Limited adhesion may occur on so-called low-energy surfaces such as PE, PP or powder-coated surfaces. Not all film products are suitable for these special substrates. Please check the material compatibility in advance or contact us for individual advice.
